SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) has delayed resuming operations at its 700,000 tonne/year No 1 cracker in Mailiao, citing minor mechanical issues at the unit, company spokesperson Lin Keh-Yen said on Tuesday.

The cracker was supposed to be restarted on 5 August following a planned turnaround that began in June, Lin said.

“Some small mechanical problems surfaced when they were restarting the unit… We expect to restart the cracker by the end of this week,” he said.

Meanwhile, FPCC’s 1.03m tonne/year No 2 cracker at the site will be shut on 15 August for 30 days of safety inspections and “minor maintenance”, Lin said.

The company’s 1.2m tonne/year No 3 cracker in Mailiao is running normally and is not scheduled to be shut in the near term for turnaround, he said.
