SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Bluestar Harbin Petrochemical has shut its 120,000 tonne/year phenol/acetone unit on 3 August because of a lack of feedstock and technical problems, a company source said on Tuesday.

The plant can produce 72,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 48,000 tonnes/year of acetone, and the shutdown may last for 15 days, according to the source.

Bluestar Harbin Petrochemical is one of the two phenol/acetone producers in the northeast region and local supply has become tight because of the shutdown, said market players, adding that prices remain stable.

The other phenol/acetone producer in the northeast is Jilin Petrochemical.
