HOUSTON (ICIS)--Praxair has started construction at a 600 tonne/day air separation plant in Memphis, Tennessee, the US-based industrial gases firm said on Wednesday.

Praxair said that the plant is expected to start up in the second quarter of 2013. Financial details were not disclosed.

“Praxair’s new plant will further strengthen Praxair’s supply position in the greater southeast region, allowing us to meet future demand from companies attracted to the area’s business-friendly environment,” said Kevin Foti, a regional president for the company's US industrial gases business.

Praxair already operates three air separation units in the Memphis area which supply a number of customers, including Nucor, Valero and a number of liquid-product customers, it said.
