HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of polypropylene (PP) for June were up by 16.7% from the same month in 2011, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.
US PP imports rose to 9,265 tonnes in June 2012 from 7,938 tonnes in 2011.
Canada, Korea and Mexico were responsible for the most PP brought into the US, together representing more than half of imports.
Imports from Mexico increased slightly from June 2011, while imports from Canada and Korea fell.
US PP exports fell by 3.2% in June to 95,484 tonnes, down from 98,645 tonnes in June 2011.
Mexico, Canada and China were the top destinations for US PP exports.
Major North American PP producers include LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil, INEOS, Total, Formosa Plastics, Braskem Americas, Pinnacle Polymers, Phillips 66 and Flint Hills Resources.
