SINGAPORE(ICIS)--Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) has raised the operating rates at its No 1 cracker in Mailiao to 85% from 70% after restarting the unit in the middle of last week, company spokesperson Lin Keh-Yen said on Monday.

The 700,000 tonne/year No 1 cracker was restarted on 8 August.

FPCC’s 1.03m tonne/year No 2 cracker and its 1.2m tonne/year No 3 cracker at the site are currently running at full capacity, Lin said earlier.

The No 2 cracker will be shut on 15 August for 30 days of safety inspections and minor maintenance, whereas the No 3 cracker is not scheduled to be shut in the near term for turnaround.

Safety checks at the production facilities at the Mailiao petrochemical complex are being required by the Taiwanese government following a string of fire incidents that occurred at the site last year.
