SINGAPORE (ICIS)--The Japanese economy expanded at an annual pace of 1.4% in the second quarter, much slower than the 4.7% rise recorded in the first three months of the year, preliminary government data showed on Monday.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the country’s June-quarter GDP grew a minimal 0.3% as exports growth slowed down amid the eurozone debt crisis and continued weakness in the US economy.

Japan’s overall exports for April-June 2012 were up 4.8% year on year, down from an 11.1% pace recorded in the first quarter.
