SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Vinyl Chloride Malaysia (VCM SB) has scheduled to shut its 400,000 tonne/year vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant at Kerteh in Terengganu state on 24 August for maintenance, a company source said on Tuesday.

Details on the plant’s current operating rate were not immediately available.

The maintenance will last until the end of September and the producer plans to restart the unit on 1 October, the source added.

The shutdown is expected to tighten VCM supply in the region and exert upward pressure on prices, market sources said.

VCM SB is a subsidiary of Malaysia’s state-owned energy firm PETRONAS.
