14 August 2012 22:07 [Source: ICIS news]MIAMI, Florida (ICIS)--US phthalic anhydride (PA) August contracts were been assessed down on Tuesday by 5 cents/lb ($110/tonne, €89/tonne) from July, following a lower US orthoxylene (OX) July contract.
PA contracts typically reflect the previous month’s OX price, which was settled at 59.00 cents/lb in July, down by 5 cents/lb from June.
The August contract for molten-grade PA was assessed by ICIS at 75.00-82.00 cents/lb, while flake-grade was assessed at 76.00-83.00 cents/lb.
A PA buyer said August prices have been heard closer to 74.00-81.00 cents/lb for molten, and 77.00-84.00 cents/lb for flake grade PA.
PA is a key intermediate in the production of plasticisers, which are used to make products such as flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Major US PA producers include BASF, Koppers, and Stepan.
