HOUSTON (ICIS)--Three contract workers were hospitalised after a brief flash fire at BP’s Whiting refinery in Indiana, a company spokesman said on Wednesday.
The fire occurred Tuesday night at a unit undergoing planned maintenance, according to BP spokesman Scott Dean. He did not identify the specific unit, but added that the refinery continues to operate at planned rates.
“Three refinery contractors were transferred to local hospitals – two for burns and one for smoke inhalation. All three contractors are in stable condition. Our thoughts are with our friends and co-workers as they recover from the incident,” said Dean.
A midwest trader said that the fire had not had an impact on the spot market as of Wednesday morning and that BP was not out as a buyer following the incident.
