SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sanfangxiang Group will switch its 200,000 tonne/year polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle chip line at Jiangyin in Jiangsu province to produce fibre grade PET chips for better margins, a company source said on Thursday.

The line was shutdown on 5 August and will be restarted around 20 August during which production output will be switched to fibre, the company source said.

“The PET bottle market is so bad that we have suffered a loss these days,” the company source said.

“We expect to switch to produce bright PET chips as the PET chips could still make margins now, but it is not totally confirmed,” the source added.

The company’s other 6 PET bottle lines with a total capacity of 1m tonnes/year are running at full operating rates now, the source said.
