SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s largest methyl methacrylate (MMA) producer Jilin Petrochemical is planning to start up its new 100,000 tonne/year MMA unit in late August, a company source said on Thursday.

The new plant in Jilin province replaces an old 50,000 tonne/year MMA unit at the site that was permanently shut on 23 April, the source said.

The company has an existing 100,000 tonne/year MMA unit at the site that is currently running at 70-75% of capacity, the source said.

MMA is used to produce polymethyl methacylate (PMMA) polymer, cast sheets and acrylic resins for coatings and emulsions.
