MOSCOW (ICIS)--SANORS has approved a project to build a new methyl methacrylate (MMA) production facility, the Russia-based group of companies said on Thursday.

The new facility would have a capacity to produce 70,000 tonnes/year of MMA and rely on technologies provided by Mitsubishi Gas Chemicals.

The project, estimated to cost around roubles (Rb) 5bn (€128m), is planned to be built in the Samara region of central Russia by 2015, according to the company.

SANORS is one of the largest producers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), phenol/acetone, synthetic ethanol, fine chemicals and organic synthesis products in Russia and eastern Europe.

Located in Novokuibyshevsk, in the Samara region, the company was formed on 29 April 2011, after consolidating the producers Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Company, Neftechimia and Samaraorgsintez.
