SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Huizhou Xingda Petrochemical on 17 August restarted its 180,000 tonne/year expandable polystyrene (EPS) plant in Huizhou, Guangdong province, after an unplanned shutdown on 28 May, a company source said on Friday.

The plant was shut because a fire broke out at one of its two feedstock styrene storage tanks.

Huizhou Xingda’s restart is not expected to have a significant impact on spot prices as local demand and supply is balanced, according to local producers.

The company is also planning a trial run next week at its new 120,000 tonne/year EPS plant located in Daqing in Heilongjiang province, according to another company source.
