LONDON (ICIS)--Experts from Germany’s Infraserv and fire officials on Friday began work to empty and dispose of a damaged toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) tank at the site of foam producer Koepp Schaum in Oestrich-Winkel, west of Wiesbaden, officials said.

The tank was damaged in an incident on Monday 13 August, resulting in a leakage.

Oestrich-Winkel town officials said that the experts emptied a nearby undamaged tank, as a precaution. In a next step, they are working to further examine and empty the damaged tank.

Meanwhile, regional environmental authorities and prosecutors have begun an investigation into the cause of the accident, police officials said.

Infraserv, which operates the Frankfurt-Hoechst chemical park, provides a range of logistics and other services to chemical firms.

Koepp Schaum uses TDI to manufacture foam products. The company could not immediately be reached for additional comment.
