MIAMI, Florida (ICIS)--US phthalic anhydride (PA) September contracts are projected to move up,  following the US orthoxylene (OX) August contract, sources said on Wednesday.

PA contracts typically reflect the previous month’s OX price, which was settled at 65 cents/lb ($1,433/tonne, €1,146/tonne) in August, up by 6 cents/lb from July.

The August contract for molten-grade PA was assessed by ICIS at 75.00-82.00 cents/lb, while flake-grade was assessed at 76-83 cents/lb.

PA is a key intermediate in the production of plasticisers, which are used to make products such as flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Major US PA producers include BASF, Koppers and Stepan.
