HOUSTON (ICIS)--US toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) suppliers this week announced price increases for September driven by snug supply, sources said on Wednesday.
One TDI supplier proposed an 8 cent/lb ($176/tonne, €141/tonne) hike for 15 September, or as contracts allow, and another announced a 10 cent/lb increase for 1 September, or as contracts allow.
Sources said that tightening availability supported the hikes, as one supplier issued an allocation on TDI effective 15 August 15 to 15 September, while another supplier was planning maintenance at a TDI plant in autumn, sources said.
TDI prices were assessed lower in early August by an average of 3 cents/lb. The amount of the decrease depended on starting point and contract terms.
Demand remained steady from major flexible polyurethane foam participants, including automotive, mattresses and furniture, participants said.
US TDI prices are assessed at $1.42-1.57/lb DEL (delivered) in bulk.
Suppliers include BASF, Bayer MaterialScience and Dow Chemical.
