HOUSTON (ICIS)--Foster Wheeler has won a contract for work on Petrobras’ planned gas-to-chemicals complex in Brazil, the international petrochemicals engineering firm said on Thursday.

Foster Wheeler said that it will provide engineering, design, procurement and construction services for the project – called Complexo Gas-Quimico UFN-IV – at Linhares in Brazil’s southeastern Espirito Santo state.

The project’s basic engineering design/front-end engineering design phase is expected to be completed by the end of 2013, it said.

Petrobras' world-scale chemical complex at Linhares is expected to produce ammonia and urea fertilizers, methanol, acetic acid, as well as formic acid and melamine, Foster said.
