SHANGHAI (ICIS)--Sinopec SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical shut down its 200,000 tonne/year butadiene (BD) unit at Tianjin in north China on 24 August for maintenance, a source close to the company said on Friday.

The shutdown will last 40-45 days, but the specific restart date has not been confirmed by the company, the source said.

As a result of the maintenance, 22,000-24,000 tonnes of BD will be lost, the source added.

BD supply in China is expected to decrease because of the shutdown, market sources said.

The spot BD prices in China have remained stable since around 20 August and are expected to remain stable until early September.  Sinopec's south China sales office offered BD at yuan (CNY) 16,000/tonne ($2,520/tonne) EXW (ex-works) on 24 August, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

Sinopec SABIC TianJin Petrochemical is a key BD producer in China.
