SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Mitsui Chemicals is running its China No 2 phenol/acetone plant at 90% capacity following an electricity outage early this week, a company source said on Friday.

The run rate at the phenol/acetone plant was lowered to 50% capacity on 20-23 August because of an electricity outage that occurred on 20 August, the source said.

Its operating rate was restored to 90% capacity on 24 August and will be kept at that level until the end of the month, the source added.

However, it is not clear as to whether full operations at the unit could be restored in September as the company is facing a shortage of feedstock propylene, the source said.

The Chiba No 2 phenol/acetone plant is a joint venture between Mitsui Chemicals and Idemitsu Kosan and can produce 230,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 138,000 tonnes/year of acetone.
