SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Dahua Group Dalian Chemical Industry has shut its 600,000 tonne/year soda ash unit in Dalian, Liaoning province, on 28 August for a 30-day scheduled turnaround, a company source said.

The company was running the plant at 80-90% capacity before the shutdown, according to the source

The shutdown led to a decrease in supply of soda ash but the persistent weak demand from the domestic downstream flat glass industry has kept soda ash prices stable, the source added.

Spot dense 99% soda ash prices in northeast China were assessed at CNY1, 500/tonne ($236/tonne) DEL (delivered) on 27 August. Prices have been stable for the past four weeks, data from Chemease, an ICIS service in China, showed.

Dahua Group Dalian Chemical Industry is the only soda ash manufacturer in northeast China.
