Correction: In the ICIS story headlined “Sinochem to start up Quanzhou refinery in late 2013” dated 29 August 2012, please read in the first paragraph …“12m tonne/year refinery”… instead of …“1.2m tonne/year refinery”… A corrected story follows.
SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Sinochem is planning to start up its 12m tonne/year (240,000 bbl/day) refinery at Quanzhou in Fujian province in late 2013, a company source said on Wednesday.
The company obtained final approval from the National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC) – China’s top economic planner – for the project on 20 August, according to a company statement.
“Construction of the project is expected to be completed in mid-2013,” said the source.
Sinochem is the biggest shareholder of West Pacific Petrochemical Co (WEPEC), which operates a 200,000 bbl/day refinery at Dalian. It also holds a controlling stake in Hongrun Petrochemical that runs a 100,000 bbl/day refinery in Shandong, the company said.
