SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemical & Fibre Corp (FCFC) plans to shut its 400,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Ningbo, in China’s Zhejiang province, in early September for maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

The plant will be taken off line for 18 days, the source said.

“We will cut our allocations to customers in September and our customers are aware of this as they were informed early this year,” the source said.

FCFC operates four other PTA plants in Taiwan. Its No 1 and No 2 PTA unit, each with a capacity of 550,000 tonnes/year, are located at Mailiao. The producer’s 700,000 tonne/year No 3 and 400,000 tonne/year No 4 PTA plant is at Loong-der.

The company’s No 4 plant has been idled since the middle of June because of squeezed PTA margins, the source said.
