SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical shut its 350,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Jinshan in Shanghai earlier this week for planned maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

The plant will be shut down for about 10 days, according to the source.

The PTA plant shutdown will have little impact on supply as the company has stocked up sufficient inventories for its downstream polyester plants, the source added.

PTA produced from the plant is mainly for captive use at the firm’s 225,000 tonne/year polyester fibre plant and 350,000 tonne/year polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle chip line at the same site, the source said.
