HOUSTON (ICIS)--Rockwood has completed the split of its Germany-based Chemetall subsidiary into two independent legal entities - a surface treatment company and a lithium company, the US-based specialty chemicals firm said on Tuesday.

Rockwood said the surface treatment business will remain under the Chemetall name.

Meanwhile, the lithium and special metals business will be renamed Rockwood Lithium GmbH, the company said.

“By splitting these two different businesses into independent companies we are better positioned to focus on their individual strengths,” said CEO Seifi Ghasemi.

“With the rapidly expanding markets for lithium ion batteries and metal organic chemicals, and on the other hand for advanced metal surface treatment chemicals, we will better be able to successfully focus in these markets,” Ghasemi said.
