SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s KP Chemical is planning to shut its paraxylene (PX) and orthoxylene (OX) production facilities in Ulsan on around 7 October for a 25 days turnaround, a company source said on Wednesday.

The Ulsan production facilities can produce a total of 775,000 tonnes/year of PX and 230,000 tonnes/year of OX.

“Our operation rate for both PX and OX plant was down to 80% from second-half August in preparation for the turnaround,” the company source said.

The company will cut October’s OX contract quantity by about 50% to its buyers namely Aekyung Petrochemical Co Ltd and Hanwha Chemicals because of the shutdown, the source added.
