HOUSTON (ICIS)--Ascend Performance Materials reported emissions from its Chocolate Bayou plant in Texas, a development to which the company had no immediate comment on Thursday.

The plant released about 100 lb (45 kg) of acrylonitrile (ACN), 100 lb of propylene and 10 lb of hydrogen cyanide, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

The plant released the chemicals when its AN2 reactors tripped, causing a 20-minute venting of the absorber off-gas, the filing said.

Plant personnel secured the unit, stabilised the waste heat boiler and then the absorber off-gas was reintroduced to the waste heat boiler, the filing said.

The plant makes ACN.
