TOKYO (ICIS)--
Japan’s ethylene exports rose by 11% month on month to 43,050 tonnes in July 2012, official data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) showed on Friday.

This is a 1.5% increase from the same period a year earlier, according to the ministry.

Japan’s ethylene-equivalent exports – which include ethylene contained in derivative products – increased by 17% month on month to 143,000 tonnes in July, but decreased by 13% year on year, based on the data.

Among the exported ethylene derivatives, 42,791 tonnes of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) were exported in July, a 59% increase from the previous month, and a 40% decrease from July 2011.

Exports of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) were up by 17% to 21,766 tonnes in July from June, and down by 49% compared with July 2011, according to METI.

Exports of styrene monomer (SM) increased by 25% to 91,033 tonnes in July from the previous month, and decreased by 11% year on year, the data showed.

Japan’s ethylene-equivalent imports declined by 2.9% to 57,500 tonnes in July from June, and fell by 23% from July 2011, according to the ministry.
