SINAGPORE (ICIS)--China’s Zhongtai Chemical plans to start up its new 400,000 tonne/year polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and 300,000 tonne/year caustic soda plants at Fukang in Xinjiang on 16 September, a company source said on Tuesday.

The two plants constitute the first phase of the company’s project at Fukang, according to the source.

The company also plans to bring on stream the second phase at the same site, which includes another 400,000 tonne/year PVC and 300,000 tonne/year caustic soda plant, within this year, but the exact time of the start-up will depend on the operating status of the first phase, she said.

The two new phases will increase the producer’s total PVC and caustic soda capacity to 1.5m tonnes/year and 1.1m tonnes/year, respectively, according to the source.

Zhongtai Chemical will sell its output to both the China domestic and overseas markets, targeting central Asia and Russia, she added.
