MIAMI, Florida (ICIS)--US phthalic anhydride (PA) September contracts have been assessed higher by 6 cents/lb ($132/tonne, €103/tonne), following the increase in the US orthoxylene (OX) August contract, market participants said on Tuesday.

US PA contracts usually move by the same amount as the previous month’s contract price for OX, the product's main feedstock.

September PA contracts were assessed by ICIS at 81-88 cents/lb FOB (free on board) for molten grades, and at 82-89 cents/lb DEL (delivered) for flake grade.

PA is a key intermediate in the production of plasticisers, which are used to make products such as flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Major US PA producers include BASF, Koppers and Stepan.
