HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of polypropylene (PP) for July were down by 5.9% from the same month in 2011, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Tuesday.
US PP imports fell to 8,916 tonnes in July 2012 from 9,479 tonnes in 2011.
Canada, Mexico and Isreal were responsible for the most PP brought into the US, together representing more than half of imports.
Among the top four importers, volumes from Mexico, Canada, and Isreal increased from July 2011, while imports from Korea fell.
US PP exports fell by 3.2% in July to 92,528 tonnes, down from 95,624 tonnes in 2011.
Mexico, Canada and China were the top destinations for US PP exports.
Major North American PP producers include LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil, INEOS, Total, Formosa Plastics, Braskem Americas, Pinnacle Polymers, Phillips 66 and Flint Hills Resources.
