US melamine imports rose to 3,398 tonnes from 3,311 tonnes in July 2011.
Imports rose year on year mainly because of increased product brought in from Germany and the Netherlands.
July imports also increased from 1,636 tonnes in June.
Trinidad and Tobago, at 1,820 tonnes, was the major source of US melamine imports, followed the Netherlands at 882 tonnes, Germany at 551 tonnes and China at 136 tonnes.
Other sources of imports included France and Spain.
The US exported 3,116 tonnes of melamine in July, up from 2,543 tonnes in June, and up from 2,020 tonnes in July 2011.
The United Kingdom at 720 tonnes was the major destination for US melamine, followed by Romania at 600 tonnes, Canada at 338 tonnes and Russia at 301 tonnes.
Other destinations included Norway, Colombia, Germany, Japan, Chile and Ireland.
The US exported 2,019 tonnes of melamine resins in July, down from 2,292 tonnes in June, and down from 2,211 tonnes in July 2011.
Major destinations included China at 460 tonnes, Mexico at 444 tonnes and Canada at 298 tonnes.
Other destinations included Brazil, India, Australia, Germany, Singapore and Thailand.
