HOUSTON (ICIS)--US sorbitol imports in July were down by 30% from the same month a year earlier, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Tuesday.

US sorbitol imports fell to 750 tonnes in July from 1,076 tonnes in July 2011.

The fall was mainly the result of reduced imports from Indonesia and Germany.

July's imports also decreased from 844 tonnes in June.

Indonesia, at 374 tonnes, was the major source of US sorbitol imports, followed by Germany at 172 tonnes and France at 144 tonnes.

The US exported 3,862 tonnes of sorbitol in July, up from 3,433 tonnes in June but down from 4,015 tonnes in July 2011.

The month's major destinations for US sorbitol were Mexico at 1,859 tonnes, Canada at 1,458 tonnes and Australia at 221 tonnes.

Other destinations included India, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Ireland, Brazil and Spain.
