SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China's Shanxi Guangda Coking Air Source on 12 September shut its 150,000 tonne/year methanol unit at Linfen in Shanxi province for scheduled maintenance, a company source said on Wednesday.
The producer is expected to restart the unit on 8 October, the source added.
Around 60% of the plant’s methanol output is supplied to the Henan area and 40% is sold to Shandong and Hebei province, according to the company source.
As the plant’s capacity only accounts for a small portion of the Shanxi domestic market, the shutdown may not lead to an increase in local methanol prices in the province, a market player said.
Methanol prices at Shanxi were assessed at yuan (CNY) 2,520-2,650/tonne ($397-418/tonne) on 11 September, unchanged from prices on 7 September, according to data from Chemease, an ICIS service in China.
