LONDON (ICIS)--Huntsman Corporation is to expand production capacity of specialty epoxy resins at its facility in McIntosh, Alabama, the US chemical company said on Wednesday.
The expansion will more than double production capacity at the plant, increasing it by 4,500 tonnes, bringing Huntsman’s total international epoxy resins output to 11,000 tonnes/year. Completion of the expansion is expected in late 2014.
The material is used in aerospace industry components, oil and gas exploration, and the production of high performance composite parts, an industry which Huntsman expects to expand in the coming years, according to company spokesman Wynne Morris.
He said “Composite parts are springing up more and more throughout many industries. The automotive industry is one example – Formula 1 cars have been using composite parts for many years, and they’ve also been used in supercars such as Ferraris.
“Where we see a lot of opportunity is when this starts to hit the mass market. Similarly, aerospace are now really starting to use more and more composite material going into aircraft, and we’re seeing the same thing in other industries,” Wynne added.
