Eurozone chemicals production grows 1.2% in July – Eurostat

LONDON (ICIS)--Chemicals production in the eurozone in July grew by an estimated 1.2% month on month, European statistics agency Eurostat said on Wednesday.

Production in the EU during the same period increased by 1% from June, Eurostat added. In June, chemicals production in the EU had fallen by 2% month on month, and was down by 1.6% in the eurozone, according to revised figures.

Production levels in July were still down compared to the previous year, as had been the case in the preceding 11 months. Chemicals production fell by 2.1% year on year in the EU, and was down by 1.5% in the eurozone.

Total July industrial production was up by 1.1% month on month in the EU and by 0.6% in the eurozone. Production had dropped by 0.8% and 0.6% respectively the previous month.

“Among the member states for which data are available, industrial production rose in 17 and fell in five. The highest increases were registered in Lithuania (+4.4%), the UK (+2.9%), Poland (+2.4%) and Denmark (+2.3%), and the largest decreases in Slovenia (-2.3%), the Netherlands (-0.8%) and Malta (-0.5%),” Eurostat said.

Year on year, industrial production in July was 2.3% lower in the eurozone and down by 1.5% in the EU.

“Among the member states for which data are available, industrial production fell in 10 and rose in 12. The largest decreases were registered in Estonia and Italy (both -7.3%), Spain (-5.4%) and Greece (-5.3%), and the highest increases in Slovakia (+18.4%), Latvia (+5.3%) and Ireland (+5.1%),” Eurostat said.
