SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japanese refiner JX Nippon Oil & Energy plans to shut its 200,000 tonne/year Group I base oils plant at Negishi in Japan in October for one month of maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

Its 250,000 tonne/year and 150,000 tonne/year Group I base oils plants at Mizushima remains shut on the back of a fire accident on 5 August, with the restart schedule still unconfirmed, the source added.

A Chinese importer said that the supply of Group I products declined in Japan after fire accidents occurred at two major base oils suppliers JX Nippon Oil & Energy and Idemitsu Kosan in July-August.

Therefore, offers of spot Group I cargoes from Japan were limited in China as most volumes were consumed in Japan, the importer added.

JX Nippon Oil & Energy has four Group I base oils plants in Japan, with a combined capacity of 770,000 tonnes/year.
