SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Hengli Petrochemical expects to start up its 2.2m tonne/year No 1 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Dalian in China’s Liaoning province on 15 September, a company source said on Friday.

The start-up schedule is slightly behind its initial intended start-up date of 10 September because of some minor technical issues, the source said.

“We had successful trial runs at the unit in late August and hopefully we can achieve on-spec production right away after feeding raw material,” the source said.

Output from the new PTA plant will mostly be for the company’s captive use, with around 37% for commercial sales, he added.

Hengli operates a total of 1.6m tonne/year polyester capacity in Jiangsu province, including two 200,000 tonne/year polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle chip lines, one 200,000 tonne/year industrial yarn unit and five 200,000 tonne/year polyester filament yarn units, the source said.

Hengli Petrochemical is building a second 2.2m tonne/year PTA plant at the same site and is targeting to start up the No 2 PTA unit at the end of the year, the source said.
