MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Lihuayi has begun trial production of cumene at its new phenol/acetone plant at Dongying in Shandong province, market sources said on Friday.

Trial cumene production started around the middle of this week, as the company prepares to start up its new 220,000 tonne/year phenol and 130,000 tonne/year acetone plant at the same site, the sources said.

However, it is not immediately clear as to whether the company has achieved on-spec cumene output, the sources added.

Cumene, a feedstock for phenol/acetone, is an intermediate produced from benzene and propylene.

The company could not be immediately reached for comment.
