HOUSTON (ICIS--US chor-alkali production in August reached a rate of 86%, down 2 percentage points from July, a trade group said on Monday.
US chlor-alkali production reached 997,394 tons (905,000 tonnes) for chlorine and 1,037,601 tons for caustic soda, according to The Chlorine Institute.
The trade group reported July production at 1,017,854 tons of chlorine and 1,060,882 tons of caustic soda.
The August numbers show a slight downturn in production after increases in May and June. Some chlor-alkali plants in the US Gulf coast shut down for several days in late August and early September because of Hurricane Isaac, which made landfall on 28 August.
Major chlor-alkali producers in the US include Formosa Plastics USA, Georgia Gulf, Shintech, Occidental Chemical (OxyChem) and Westlake.
