TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of polystyrene (PS) fell by 16% to 46,696 tonnes in August from the previous month, data released by an industry association on Tuesday show.
The decline reflected decreased domestic demand, based on data from the Japan Styrene Industry Association (JSIA).
However, the country’s PS production in August was up by 3% year on year, the data show.
Japan’s domestic PS demand was down by 10% month on month at 44,519 tonnes in August – a 4% decline year on year, according to the JSIA.
The country exported a total of 1,943 tonnes of PS in August – up by 23% from July, but a 4% decrease from August 2011.
