LONDON (ICIS)--EU construction output in July dropped by 0.2% compared with the month before, statistics office Eurostat said on Wednesday.
In the eurozone, construction output, one of the chemical industry’s key downstream markets using a wide variety of products, including plastics and adhesives, fell by 0.3% month on month, Eurostat added.
Among the member states for which data was available for July, month-on-month production in construction fell in 10 and rose in five.
“The largest decreases were registered in Italy (-2.2%), Spain (-2.1%) and Sweden (-1.1%), and the highest increases in Hungary (+8.7%), Germany (+1.9%), Bulgaria and the Czech Republic (both +1.6%),” the statistics agency said.
On a year-on-year basis, output in July decreased by 6.1% in the 27-member EU and by 4.7% in the eurozone, Eurostat said.
Among the member states for which data was available for July 2012, year-on-year production in construction fell in 12 and rose in three.
“The largest [year-on-year] decreases were registered in Slovenia (-18.3%), Portugal (-18.2%), Spain (-16.1%) and Italy (-14.2%), and the increases in Hungary (+7.7%), Bulgaria (+3.0%) and Germany (+2.2%),” Eurostat said.
