SINGAPORE (ICIS)--LANXESS has appointed Ming Cheng Chien as chief executive officer (CEO) of its business in Greater China, effective on 1 February 2013, the German specialty chemicals company said in a statement late on Wednesday.

The company defines ‘Greater China’ as mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.

Chien currently heads the ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) business line of the German firm’s technical rubber products business unit.

Martin Kraemer, the incumbent CEO of LANXESS in Greater China, will lead the newly formed business line of benzyl products and inorganic acids within its Advanced Industrial Intermediates (AII) business unit on the same day, the statement added.

Kraemer took over the chief executive role in January 2009 and doubled sales to €992m ($764m) in 2011 from €500m in 2008, the statement said.

The German firm will also expand its existing portfolio of 13 business units to 14 from 1 January 2013 onward, according to an earlier ICIS report.
