SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shanghai Xueyin Chemical is planning to bring on stream a 40,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) unit at Jinshan Industry Park in Shanghai in the middle of October, a company source said on Friday.

The unit will take raffinate C4 as feedstock, but the company was “still looking for the feedstock source”, the source added.

Market sources said the company may not be able to start up the MTBE unit on time because it has not yet secured feedstock supply.

Most of the MTBE output will be supplied to domestic markets, the company source added.

The company will feed etherified C4 byproducts from the MTBE unit for its 150,000 tonne/year aromatization unit at the same site, which  is scheduled to be on line  at around late February 2013, according to the source.
