SINGAPORE (ICIS)--?xml:namespace>China’s Hengli Petrochemical is currently running its new 2.2m tonne/year No 1 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Dalian in Liaoning province at 60-65% after the unit’s successful start-up on 15 September, a company source said on Friday.
“We will gradually raise the run rate [at the unit] to ensure a stable operation,” the source said.
Hengli Petrochemical has shipped out a first batch of 15,000 tonnes of PTA from the new plant to eastern China on 18 September. The PTA will be fed into the company’s own polyester plants in Jiangsu province, the source said.
The company has a polyester capacity of 1.6m tonne/year in Jiangsu province, the source said.
“We plan to start commercial sales in early October,” the source said, adding that the company has reached tentative agreement with some polyester makers in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.
The new capacity is likely to dampen spot PTA prices in China in the coming weeks, several market sources said.
Hengli Petrochemical is building a second 2.2m tonne/year PTA plant in Dalian that is expected to start up at the end of the year, the source said.By: Becky Zhang+65 6780 4359
