MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Lihuayi has achieved on-spec cumene output at its new phenol/acetone plant at Dongying in Shandong province, a company source said on Friday.

Trial production of cumene - an intermediate produced from benzene and propylene - began on 8 September, the source said.

The company plans to begin test runs for phenol/acetone next week, the source said, adding that it is too early to say when on-spec phenol/acetone output will be achieved.

Lihuayi’s new plant has a phenol capacity of 220,000 tonnes/year, and an acetone capacity of 130,000 tonnes/year.
