TOKYO (ICIS)--Japanese refiner JX Nippon Oil & Energy has restarted its 180,000 bbl/day crude distillation unit (CDU) at the Muroran site in Hokkaido on 21 September, four days after an unexpected shutdown, a company official said on Monday.

The company had shut the unit on 17 September because of “a problem in a secondary unit”, the official said, without providing further details.

The official declined to state if the problem has been fixed or provide the current operating rate of the CDU.

The company’s 136,000 bbl/day CDU at Oita, which was shut for two weeks in late August, is operating “normally”, the official said.

However, the No 2 CDU and the No 3 CDU at the Mizushima B refinery at Mizushima in Okayama prefecture, which were shut because of safety issues in July, remain shut as of Monday, the official said.

The company has no plans to restart either unit yet, he added. The capacities of the No 2 and No3 CDUs are 95,200 bbl/day and 110,000 bbl/day respectively, according to the company’s website.
