HOUSTON (ICIS)--LyondellBasell’s Texas vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) plant in La Porte will go down in October for planned maintenance, sources said on Monday.
LyondellBasell did not return calls immediately seeking comment.
VAM sources said they had heard the 380,000 tonne/year unit would have a turnaround next month, but did not know how long the maintenance would last.
There are five US VAM plants, all in the Houston area.
Spot VAM prices increased $20/tonne (€15/tonne) last week on rising raw material costs and a producer nomination. ICIS assessed the VAM free-on-board (FOB) export range at $880-980/tonne, up from $860-960/tonne the previous week.
Major US VAM producers include DuPont, Dow Chemical, Celanese and LyondellBasell.
