SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China imported 5,482 tonnes of  acrylate esters in August, a 1% rise compared with the 5,428 tonnes recorded during the same period a year earlier, because of higher  2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA) imports, China Customs data showed on Tuesday.

Import volumes of 2-EHA increased by 30% year on year to 2,608 tonnes, the data showed.

However, imports of ethyl acrylate (ethyl-A) in August fell to 4 tonnes, from 265 tonnes in the same period a year earlier, while imported methyl acrylate (methyl-A) decreased by 82% year on year to 31 tonnes, the data showed.

Meanwhile, Imported butyl acrylate (butyl-A) volumes declined by 5% year on year to 2,839 tonnes, according to the data.

The lower import volumes for ethyl-A and butyl-A were attributed to weak downstream demand, especially in the Chinese markets, market sources said.

Imported prices on a CIF (cost, insurance, and freight) China Main Port (CMP) basis of butyl-A stood at 7.8% higher at $1,820-1,900/tonne (€1401-1463/tonne) , while ethyl-A prices were 3.5% higher at $1,750-1,800/tonne, methyl-A prices were up by 3.1% at $1,650-1,700/tonne and 2-EHA prices rose by 1.6% to $1,900-2,000/tonne on 19 September, compared with prices on 1 August, ICIS data showed.

Domestic prices in China on a DEL (delivered) basis rose by yuan (CNY) 1,700-1,800/tonne ($269-285/tonne), CNY700/tonne, CNY700-800/tonne and CNY1,200-1,400/tonne for butyl-A, ethyl-A, methyl-A and 2-EHA respectively, during the same period,  according to ICIS data.
