TORONTO (ICIS)--Canada’s Irving Oil does not expect that a small explosion at a New Brunswick province refinery will affect its production, the company said on Wednesday.

“Due to the planned turnaround work taking place, we do not anticipate any production impacts,” Irving said in an emailed statement to ICIS.

The accident at the 300,000 bbl/day refinery at Saint John occured about 11:52 hours New Brunswick time (14:52 hours GMT) during a scheduled hydrogen plant turnaround at the refinery.

A carbonate tank undergoing maintenance work was over-pressurised, the company said. An employee suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution, it added.

There was no further damage to the refinery. At 12:40 hours the refinery issued the all-clear to resume normal operations.

Irving Oil's plant is Canada's largest refinery. It supplies markets in eastern Canada and the northeast US.
