SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Haili Chemical Industry is currently running its new 150,000 tonne/year adipic acid (ADA) plant in Jiangsu province at around 50% of capacity, a company source said on Thursday.

The plant, which is the company’s first ADA unit in Jiangsu province, achieved on-spec product early this week, the source said.

“Currently, the operating rate was just around 50% since it just started up,” the source said.

The company started trial runs at the new unit in mid-September, the source said.

The plant’s start-up was delayed several times because of weak market demand.

Shandong Haili has also built a second 150,000 tonne/year ADA line at the same site, but no start-up date has been fixed for this unit, the source said.

At Zibo in Shandong province, the company has three existing ADA lines with a combined capacity of 225,000 tonnes/year.

ADA is primarily used in the production of nylon 6,6 (or polyamide 6,6), as well as in the manufacturing of polyurethane, which is used in the soles of shoes and in polyester resins.
